**Is there an official GitLab MCP server?**

Yes. GitLab publishes its own, listed as com.gitlab/mcp on the official MCP registry. That distinction matters more than it sounds: an official server tracks the vendor's own API changes, while community servers can drift or go unmaintained. Plenty of major tools — Salesforce and ServiceNow among them — still have only community MCP servers.

**What is the GitLab MCP best at?**
