OKR examples and a free OKR generator

Pick a team, start from a well-formed example, and shape it into your own OKR - one objective, measurable key results, ready to copy. No signup, nothing leaves your browser.

Key results - measurable outcomes, from -> to

Tip: if a key result is done just by shipping something, it's a task - rewrite it as the outcome that shipping should produce.

Your OKR

An OKR is only as honest as the metric behind it. In AIOProductOS a key result reads live from the spine - the funnel, retention, or revenue it names - so progress updates itself instead of a quarterly guess, and each result can be weighted by the revenue it moves.

What makes an OKR good

Directional objective, measurable results.

The objective inspires. It says where you're going in plain language - "make onboarding the moment users fall in love" - not a number. If it reads like a metric, it's a key result.

Key results measure. Each one moves a metric from a baseline to a target. "Increase activation from 38% to 60%" is a key result; "redesign onboarding" is a task.

Keep it few. One to three objectives, two to four key results each. OKRs are for the things that matter most this quarter - not a copy of your backlog.

The OKR template

Objective: [a qualitative, ambitious statement of what you want to achieve]

Key results
- [Move metric] from [baseline] to [target]
- [Move metric] from [baseline] to [target]
- [Move metric] from [baseline] to [target]

That's the whole OKR template: one directional objective and two to four measurable key results, each with a from and a to. Use the generator above to start from a real example and adapt it, then download the Markdown into your tracker.

FAQ

OKR questions

What is an OKR?

OKR stands for Objectives and Key Results - a goal-setting method popularized by Intel and Google. The Objective is a qualitative, ambitious statement of what you want to achieve; the Key Results are 2-4 measurable outcomes that prove you got there. One objective, a few metrics, a quarter to move them.

What is a good OKR example?

A good OKR pairs a directional objective with measurable outcomes. Example - Objective: "Make onboarding the moment users fall in love with the product." Key results: lift activation from 38% to 60%, cut time-to-first-value from 3 days to under 1 hour, raise week-4 retention from 22% to 35%. Notice the key results are outcomes with a from-to, not tasks.

What is the difference between an OKR and a KPI?

A KPI is a metric you monitor continuously (churn, uptime, MRR). An OKR is a time-boxed goal to CHANGE something over a quarter - it often uses a KPI as a key result, with a specific target. KPIs tell you how the business is running; OKRs tell you what you're trying to improve right now.

How do you write good key results?

Make each key result a measurable OUTCOME with a starting point and a target - "increase X from A to B" - not an activity like "launch the new flow." If a key result can be marked done just by shipping something, it's a task; rewrite it as the result that shipping is supposed to produce. Aim for 2-4 per objective.

How many OKRs should a team have?

Fewer than you think. One to three objectives per team per quarter, each with 2-4 key results. OKRs are for the handful of things that matter most, not a list of everything you're doing - if everything is an OKR, nothing is prioritized.
